Electron Localization in Rydberg States

چکیده
We discuss the possibility of localizing an electron in a highly excited Rydberg state. The second-order correlation emitted photons is tool for determination position. This radiation and, therefore, operators describing acceleration allows partial localization its orbit. function found by approximating transition matrix elements their values classical limit. It shown that correlation, depending on two times, time difference and periodic this argument with period equal to corresponding motion. has sharp maxima large vicinity "perihelion". consecutive approach perihelion point.

The role of excited Rydberg States in electron transfer dissociation.
Ab initio electronic structure methods are used to estimate the cross sections for electron transfer from donor anions having electron binding energies ranging from 0.001 to 0.6 eV to each of three sites in a model disulfide-linked molecular cation. The three sites are (1) the S-S sigma(*) orbital to which electron attachment is rendered exothermic by Coulomb stabilization from the nearby posit...
متن کاملTests of Theory in Rydberg States of One-electron Ions
Comparison of optical frequency measurements to predictions of quantum electrodynamics (QED) for Rydberg states of one-electron ions can test theory and allow new determinations of constants of nature to be made. Simplifications in the QED theory of high-angular-momentum states reduces the uncertainty in the prediction of transition frequencies to a level where a new value of the Rydberg consta...

A recent quantum mechanical study [W. Isaacs and M. A. Morrison, Phys. Rev. A 57, R9 (1998)] discovered pronounced oscillations in cross sections for near-resonant energy transfer collisions of rare-gas atoms with initially aligned Rydberg atoms. We analyze such collisions for 17d(m)-->18p(m(')) transitions in the Ca-He system semiclassically and show that the oscillations arise from a phase in...
متن کاملSignatures of Anderson localization in the ionization rates of periodically driven Rydberg states
We provide a statistical characterization of the ionization yield of onedimensional, periodically driven Rydberg states of atomic hydrogen, in the spirit of Anderson localization theory. We find excellent agreement with predictions for the conductance across an Anderson localized, quasi one-dimensional, disordered wire, in the semiclassical limit of highly excited atomic initial states. For the...
متن کاملUse of heavy-Rydberg ion-pair states to probe dissociative electron attachment
Electron transfer in collisions between Rydberg atoms and targets that attach free low-energy electrons can lead to the formation of heavy-Rydberg ion-pair states comprising a positive-negative ion pair that orbit each other at large separations weakly bound by their mutual electrostatic attraction. It is shown that measurements of the velocity distribution of the ion-pair states produced in su...
